Award
The Awards Committee is accepting nominations for a North Dakota Conference of
Social Welfare Service Award through
June 26, 2009. These awards will be presented at the North Dakota
Conference of Social Welfare scheduled for
September
23-25 2009 at the Best Western Seven Seas Inn-Mandan, North Dakota.
Due to the fact that the Awards Committee does not have access to information on eligible nominees regarding changes in employment, transfers to different agencies, breaks in service, out of state employment, private employers, etc, committee members rely on each potential recipient to provide them with a brief autobiography. Biographies will be compiled into a booklet which will be included in each member’s registration packet. Conference rules stipulate we cannot go back more than one year if someone has been overlooked for an award and years of conference membership must be met during the eligible year.
Individuals may submit their own nomination form, or an employee’s director, supervisor, or co-worker may submit on their behalf. To determine eligibility for an award, the nominee’s years of service in the field of social welfare and the years of Conference membership are taken into consideration. The years of accumulated service in the field of social welfare must be attained by October 31, 2009 and the recipient must be a current (2009) member of the North Dakota Conference of Social Welfare. Deadline for nominations is June 26, 2009.

The North Dakota Conference of Social Welfare provides an Educational Grant, which is available for current NDCSW members to help work toward a course of study/training leading to enhanced employment or educational development. The applicant must provide assurances that the purpose for which the Educational Grant is requested, is job-related, as well as serving one of the five purposes of the North Dakota Conference of Social Welfare. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis, for up to $250. All legitimate costs related to tuition, mileage, per diems, and books will be allowed. The Executive Committee will consider each application and why each applicant is unable to fulfill their educational goals without assistance, and what involvement the applicant has had in the past with the conference.

SCHOLARSHIP
Each year the NDCSW selects up to one (1) graduate and eight (8) undergraduate students for up to a $500 scholarship. The scholarships are awarded at the annual conference, which is held in September each year. The scholarship selection is based on the student’s interest in: 1) social welfare reform; 2) advocating for the underprivileged; and 3) being a leader in social welfare issues. The student must write an essay of 1000 words or less about their interest in the three areas listed above; why you would like to be a member of the NDCSW; what benefits there are to membership in the NDCSW; what committee you would like to serve on; and, how you would like to or intend to become involved as a member of the NDCSW. Students may access the NDCSW website at www.ndcsw.org for information on the organization and its committees. Scholarship recipients will attend the fall conference late in September to receive their award. Deadline for submission of this scholarship is April 30, 2010.
