MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR 2010 FALL CONFERENCE
The Local Arrangements Committee is busy with arrangements for making the Conference an interesting and enjoyable experience.
The North Dakota Conference of Social Welfare Fall Conference will be held in Minot, North Dakota, at the Grand International Inn on September 22, 23 and 24, 2010. The Grand International Inn is located at 1505 North Broadway at the top of North Hill. The toll free number for reservations is 1-800-735-4493, the local number is 701-852-3161, and the e-mail address is www.internationalinn.com.
The Grand International Inn has capacity for all conference attendees at state rates so everyone is encouraged to make reservations early and stay at the Grand International Inn.

Arrangements for agency direct billing must be made at the time reservations are made. Please let them know that you are with the Conference. The reservation deadline for all motels is September 8, 2010.

A wine and cheese social sponsored by the Grand International Inn will be held on Wednesday evening (September 22) after the Opening Session. The social will feature “North Dakota’s Got Talent” as the evening’s entertainment. If you have a special talent you would like to share with Conference Members, please contact Dan or Cleo (at the phone numbers or e-mails listed below). Cash prizes will be awarded to all contestants.
A chuck wagon buffet
will be offered at the Awards Banquet on Thursday evening, September 23. Banquet
entertainment will be music provided Justin Johnson on the soprano saxophone. A
light dessert and coffee will be served following the banquet in conjunction
with a live auction.
Friday morning, September 24,will feature a full buffet breakfast prior to the general session.
Door prizes will be drawn throughout the Conference events.

Report from the Program Committee…………………
“BACK TO THE BASICS: CONNECTING PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE”
The 2010 Conference of Social Welfare Program Committee is planning an all-around educational adventure for it’s members. The opening session on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, will be a motivational presentation on “Life’s Greatest Moments” by V.J. Smith. This session is sure to entertain and inspire all. Plans are being made for a Foster Parent Training with Charlie Joyce, LICSW, on Wednesday evening. The General Session on Thursday morning, September 23, will be entitled “The Art of Having Difficult Conversations” presented by staff of the University of North Dakota. Learn how to talk to the difficult people in your life. Tammy Ness, LICSW, from North Central Human Service Center, will be presenting on “Texting and Sexting - Media Impact on Youth”. Other planned topics are “Grief and Loss in Foster Care”, “Transitional Case Management”, “How to Really Listen, “Relatives Raising Children” and “Trafficking of Native American Women”. Job Corp will be providing a full course menu for lunch on Thursday, as well as a tour of the Quentin Burdick Job Corp Center. Friday morning’s General Session has not yet been determined; however, topics of interest are State Administration of County Social Services, Health Care Reform, and Candidates for the Senate and House seats-What do they have to tell us? The Program Committee is planning something for everyone and we hope you can all attend the North Dakota Conference of Social annual meeting at the Grand International Inn on September 23, 24, and 25, 2010.
